All About Giorgio Armani

It wouldn't be incorrect to say that Giorgio Armani's newest feminine scent, S, is L'Oreal's (the brand's parent business) response to LancĂ´me's La Vie Est Belle's economic success from the previous year. The target market for both perfumes is 35–50 year old women looking for something a little more sophisticated than the typical fruity floral at department stores while still not shocking anyone with their limp-wristed, yet persistent, wake of scent. Both are competent, but rather forgettable perfumes that are sure to capture and retain that market.

Instead of the startlingly asymmetrical Reykjavk's Harpa Concert Hall & Conference Center, they are the Empire State Building. Rather than Irene Dunne, the rom-com protagonist with messy hair. And a predictable lyrical narrative that reads more like a Paulo Coelho self-help book than an Orhan Pamuk work. The perfumes in question are not Coelho-bad, so disregard the final adage.

About Emporio Armani

And last, but certainly not least, we have the Emporio Armani "wardrobe"—pairs of scents that are absolutely modern, vivacious, and youthful while also being wearable and enjoyable separately.

Sage, the fragrance's aromatic centre note, embodies the idea that Stronger With You "lives in the present, enveloped by the energy of modernity," with a confident elegance and the carefree nonchalance of youth. But when the notes develop on the skin and reveal warm spices, smokey Vanilla Jungle EssenceTM, and a sugar-coated chestnut accord, the fragrance's true enticing qualities become apparent.

While In Love With You, its feminine counterpart, provides us with seductive and highly addicting tones of black cherry, jasmine, and vanilla. The beautiful cap designs for these two scents, meantime, were inspired by the rings Giorgio wears on his left third finger—one for himself and one for his husband, Sergio Galeotti. You might also be interested to hear that the YouTube series "Together Stronger," which goes along with the scents, has amassed more than eight million views and has become a phenomenon in and of itself.

A perfume is more than an extract, as the great man once said. It is an abstract presence. For me, a scent has a mystique. So it is.
